Let me introduce our latest Isle of Skye, Double Smoke. 40% ABV and as the name suggests a lot more peat smoke. Up until now the Isle of Skye 8-year-old has contained the most ‘island’ influence, which means if you like dry peat smoke so familiar to drinkers of whisky (traditionally) from the islands of Scotland then this is the one you must try. It is a Blend, so it is natural that the Speyside whiskies will marry with the island whiskies and give a smoother mellower peat smoke taste which is delicious. However, like the island when a storm blows in, we too like to dial up the volume, the drama and in this case the charred peat smoke! Who doesn’t occasionally like a little ‘oomph’ when choosing a dram.

Sometimes there is a need for just a little bit more and that’s what Double Smoke is all about. We accentuated and highlighted the characteristics of the island whiskies by dialing them up in this Blend. Think of standing next to a bonfire on a beach in Skye being surrounded by the wild smoke, while picking up the salinity from the sea.

It reminds me of this year’s Skye’s Highland Games where I was fortunate enough to attend in the capacity of one of their sponsors, sharing some drams overlooking all the action. I’ll see you there next year! The weather this year compared to 2024 was amazing and the Games were blessed with a stunning day that only Skye can deliver. Everything was dialed up to maximum. It was warm. It was gloriously noisy. Hammers were thrown, cabers were tossed, races run and Highland Dancing jigged. All to the soundtrack of Scottish music and the Pipe Band. Portree, the capital of Skye, put on an amazing day. It was unforgettable. It was a day on Skye but twice as loud, twice as fun, twice as memorable. You could almost say it was Double Skye, now there’s an idea for a whisky.
