Jim Murray's Whisky Bible rates Isle of Skye Whisky

02/11/2011

Isle of Skye Whisky was delighted to get some outstanding reviews in the latest Jim Murray Whisky Bible (2012). Some extracts are shown below:

Isle of Skye 8 years old (94 points) - Superstar whisky that gives us all reason to live!

Nose: Honey and smoke play tag; the grain is firm and clean;

Taste: Just so beautiful. Honeycomb and light fudge form a rich partnership, the smoke is little more than ballast and a shy spice; the grains play a fabulous role in allowing the maltier notes to ping around and increase the salivating qualities;

Finish: The spice is now pretty warming but the honeycomb and vanilla dominate the finale.

Overall: Where once peat ruled and with its grain ally formed a smoky iron fist, now honey and subtlety reigns. A change of character and pace which will intrigue and delight those looking for a more sophisticated dram.

Isle of Skye 21 years old (91 points) - Brilliant!

Taste: Sweet chocolate raisin, sumptuously brushed with a layer of soft smoke and Demerara

Finish: Wonderfully deft spices nibble at the tastebuds like tiny fish at your feet in a rock pool; grains at last - soft and silky all the way;

Overall: What an absolute charmer! The malt content appears pretty high, but the overall balance is wonderful. A belter of a blend!
